According to the recommendations of the competent authorities in the Federation of BiH to postpone all public gatherings due to the threat of spreading the COVID-19 disease, the Foreign Investors Council in BiH (FIC) decided to postpone the planned expert discussion on “Challenges in application of the Consumer Protection Law in BiH €ť.
The expert discussion was planned to be held on March 18, 2020 in Sarajevo, with the participation of representatives of the following institutions: Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, Federal Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Trade and Tourism of Republika Srpska, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Republika Srpska, Federal Administration for Inspection Issues – Inspectorate of Market, Republic Administration for Inspection Affairs of the Republika Srpska, cantonal administrations for Inspection Affairs, Institution of the Ombudsman for Consumer Protection in BiH, Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, and representatives of companies from the trade sector.
The purpose of the expert discussion is to address to the competent institutions the problems encountered by companies from the trade sector, in connection with the application and interpretation of Article 23 (Declaration of cosmetic products) and Article 11 paragraph 6 of the Law on Consumer Protection in BiH which stipulates the obligation of the trader to clearly, visibly, legibly and unambiguously mark the price of the product, i.e. on the pack of each individual item, at the point of sale of the product and service, as well as on the product in the shop window. Retailers practice is to mark prices in such a way that they are displayed at the point of sale as well as on the product in the shop window. Many retailers do not indicate the prices on the cover of each individual item, and face numerous fines, considering that inspections narrowly and formally interpret the mentioned provision of the Consumer Protection Law.
Consequently, the FIC recognized the need to organize such an expert discussion to find adequate solutions to the controversial issue of interpretation of certain provisions of the Law on Consumer Protection of BiH.
The participants will be informed about the new date of the expert discussion in a timely manner.
